Daniel and I are so excited to announce that I am pregnant!
Most important information (for those of you who don't want to read the whole story):
- My due date is September 11, 2013
- As of February 13th (yesterday) I am 10 weeks along
- We really want a boy, but of course we will love a girl!
Here's our story:
We found out on Saturday, January 26th.
The whole week before the 26th I had been feeling really nauseous and not well. Daniel asked if I could be pregnant, but I was sure that I wasn't pregnant. Finally, on Friday the 25th, in the middle of helping a student (I'm a student teacher) a wave of nausea came over me and I had to run to the bathroom. That was when I decided to take a pregnancy test. I figured there had to be something wrong with me, and I could rule out pregnancy with just a simple test.
Later I decided that that awful nausea on Friday was Heavenly Father's way of telling me to take a pregnancy test. Saturday morning I took the pregnancy test, and it showed a positive result within seconds! That got me cautiously excited. I told Daniel when I came back to bed. That whole day Daniel and I were both excited, but cautious.
I say cautious because Daniel and I have been trying to get pregnant for a really really long time (more than a year!). Finally at the beginning of December we decided that it would probably take medical intervention to get pregnant, and we decided to wait a couple of years to get that medical intervention. Of course Heavenly Father has a funny sense of humor, and once we decided that we couldn't get pregnant naturally, and got used to the fact that we wouldn't have kids for a few more years, we got pregnant naturally! :)
Back to my awesome story: I took another pregnancy test on Sunday morning, and that one also turned positive really quickly. That confirmed it for us, and we were excited. Well, the week went on, and I felt a little queezy, but not as bad as the week before, so I started doubting that I was actually pregnant, my body didn't actually feel different other than the sickness. On Friday, February 1st, I took a third pregnancy test. It was also positive, but of course Heavenly Father had to let me know for sure that it was correct, so I was sick all day. I learned my lesson! I'm not going to doubt it!
We decided to tell our parents the next week. We went to Meadow for the weekend, so we told Daniel's parents first. We had to swear them to secrecy because we weren't ready to tell everyone that I was pregnant. We wanted to be the ones to tell Daniel's siblings, we didn't want them to hear it through the grapevine. On Sunday, Amber, Daniel's sister, called to talk to Marilyn. She asked if we were pregnant, and Marilyn said, and I quote "not that anyone is spreading around, so no body else has heard about it". When Marilyn got off the phone I said, "Marilyn, you almost slipped!" She said "No I knew I wasn't supposed to tell, but I couldn't lie to my daughter." After that I thought, uh- oh, we're in trouble :p
We decided to wait to tell my parents for a couple of days, because Wednesday, February 6th was my dad's birthday, and I really wanted to tell him on his birthday. The way we told my family is we sent my dad two birthday cards. We labeled them, so that dad would know which to open first and which to open second. The first was from us, just a normal (awesome of course) birthday card. The second one was a "Happy Birthday, Grandpa" card, and we signed it from baby Freeman, coming September 2013.
I was so excited for February 6th because that's when my family was going to find out that I was pregnant. I knew that Dad probably wouldn't open cards until around 6 or 7 Washington time, because usually the family eats dinner first, then opens presents and cards. Mom called me at around 5 Utah time to say hi, and she mentioned that they were going to go out to dinner in about an hour. That killed me! That meant that they probably wouldn't get home until at the earliest 7 Utah time. By the time it was 8 Utah time I was just dying, and I wondered if the family had just decided not to call me and congratulate me. I asked Daniel if I should call my dad to see if he'd gotten my card, but Daniel told me to be patient and wait. FINALLY at 8:30 my family called because Dad had opened his second card. They were really excited, and I was glad they had called :)
The next day, February 7th, I went to the doctor for the first time. The doctor drew a lot of blood and did some other stuff, but didn't really tell me anything about my baby. She said that my official due date is September 11, and that my stomach felt the size that it should be for me being 9 weeks along. My next appointment will be March 7th, and we'll get to hear the babies heart beat then :) I'm so excited!
I got my results from the doctor's office today (valentine's day). I didn't want to tell everyone that I was pregnant until I had heard from the doctor that everything was okay, so when I called yesterday and they still didn't have my results I was worried. But I called again today and the results were ready and looked good.
We have told a few friends and family members along the way, and decided to tell everyone today, Valentine's day, because we love our baby!!
I have never been pregnant before, or had a baby, or anything like that, so if you have any tips or advice for me or Daniel, I would really appreciate it.
