Let me preface this story with this: We love our apartment and don't plan to move until we're both done with BYU in two years and move to graduate school. We have a great landlord who is really skilled at fixing our apartment. Our apartment is VERY old. (I just looked up when our apartment building was built: 1916!! It's almost 100 years old!)
Ok, here's the story:
So a few months ago one of the plugs our bedroom stopped working. A few days ago all the plugs in our living room stopped working. We decided it was time to call our landlord and have him check it all out. He said he would come thursday (today). He called us at about 9:45 and said he'd be at our apartment by 10:15. So at 10:07 I put Frodo in our car (with the windows cracked and in the shade of course). We're kind of doing a don't ask don't tell policy with having a pet. We won't ask if we're allowed to have one, so our landlord can't say no. Well, our landlord, Brian, didn't actually show up until 10:45. Daniel had to leave before he got here, so it was just me trying to explain things to Brian.
Brian spent two hours working on fixing our plugs. At first he had the plugs fixed, but for some reason when they worked none of the fans or ceiling lights worked. Then he tried to fix it again and nothing in our bedroom or our living room worked. So he went to Home Depot to see what they could tell him. He came back with one last chance: to turn the power off in all the apartments and try working on our outlets. Well the switch that was supposed to turn off all the power for the building didn't work, it just restarted everything, not turned it off. So Brian was totally frustrated and decided that we'd just have to call a real electrician. He put all the plugs back together so that our apartment wouldn't look weird. We'd just have to live for about a week with only our kitchen power (the bathroom and hall lights were affected too). So he put everything back together, decided to restart the power one more time, just for kicks and giggles. and BAM! everything, including the outlets that orignialy didn't work, was working again! :) Yay! Brian has no idea what he did, but it worked. Then he fixed our toilet and left.
Remember poor Frodo who is still in the car? ya, he was in the car for almost 3 hours. I checked on him a few times and he was doing fine. He actually liked being somewhere other than our apartment because it gave him new places to explore. He was happy to see me when I finally took him out of the car, but not happy when I wouldn't let him stay outside. I won't let him go outside unless Daniel is home to catch him if he runs.
Now Frodo keeps sitting by the door Meowing because he has had a taste of the outside world and wants more. :p
After Brian left, and I brought Frodo in I started testing the previously dead plugs. They worked, yay! So I plugged everything in. Then I decided to test a previously working plug that we weren't using. It now sizzles when we plug stuff into it, which it didn't do before. Oh great. Good thing we don't need the plug, because I sure don't want to have to call Brain again- he doesn't live in Provo, so it's not just a quick stop by for him to check stuff.
