Last weekend (Jan 27, 28) Daniel and I went down to Meadow (no surprise there), but instead of spending the whole time with his family and playing around we spent all of Friday shadowing. Daniel spent the day at the hospital shadowing a Physical Therapist, and I spent the day at Millard High School shadowing a math teacher. Daniel eventually wants to work at that hospital (which would imply that I work at that high school because it's the only one around) so we were really excited to spend the day checking out our future careers. And guess what... WE LOVED IT! We both had such a wonderful time!
This was especially important for Daniel, and let me tell you why. When we first got married Daniel wanted to take the long path through med school and become a surgeon. He then spent a year working at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center (the hospital down the street from us) as a CNA taking care of patients with heart problems, many who had just had surgery. He hated the environment (although he grew to love the people), and he decided that he wanted to do something were he got to interact with people more often. He thought back to high school. He played football and basketball (oh my honey ;) ) and worked with a physical therapist a lot, so he decided to go into physical therapy. Well, last weekend was the first time he spent the day working in his desired career. And he loved it! So he now knows that he is on the right career path for him, and I am so happy!
The same sort of thing happened to me. I started off BYU as a math major hoping to do something awesome and smartish. Well, after three years I couldn't find anything that I was interested in, so over the summer of 2011 I changed to a mathed major because teaching sounded interesting to me. Well, the weekend was the last time that I have spent in my desired career, and I loved it! I am so exctied to become a teacher!
All in all, Daniel and I are doing what we need to do to do what we want to do for the rest of our lives. What a blessing!!
