Saturday is a Special Day, it's the Day We Get Ready for Sunday

Last night after Daniel went to work I was trying to decide if I should go to bed or not. I wasn't really tired, but I didn't think I had anything to do but watch TV. Then out of no where, the lyrics to the primary song "Saturday" came into my head. They are:

Saturday is a special day.
It's the day we get ready for Sunday:
We clean the house, and we shop at the store,
So we won't have to work until Monday.
We brush our clothes, and we shine our shoes,
And we call it our get-the-work-done day.
Then we trim our nails, and we shampoo our hair,
So we can be ready for Sunday!

I started singing that over and over again in my head, and after getting past the happy memories of being in primary a long time ago I started thinking about the words. This song is meant for primary children (about ages 5-11) to sing in church, but that doesn't mean they're not applicable to me.

I realized that Saturday really is a special day because we can prepare our selves for Sunday. Sunday is a day of rest and a day to draw nearer to the Lord. Honestly, I do usually do my dishes and pick up the apartment on Sundays because I enjoy doing those things, and I enjoy the feeling I get after I clean. I always said that because picking up the apartment makes me feel good, then it's a good Sunday activity. But last night I realized that there are so many other things that are good activities that I could be doing on Sunday instead of cleaning my apartment. So at 11:30 at night I started cleaning, with a goal to be done my midnight (I only had to do dishes and pick up some clothes in our bedroom, so it wasn't unrealistic to think of being done in a half hour).

I am grateful for this experience because one day we will be teaching Connor how to keep the Sabbath day holy, and we can sing this song with him and ask him what it means. We all know the old saying "actions speak louder than words" and I will be able to show Connor through my actions that we can prepare for Sunday on Saturday.

Here's a link to the song "Saturday" for anyone feeling nostalgic :)
