I want to record everything that I can about Connor, so this post probably won't be an interesting read.
For example, I started nursing Connor a few minutes after he was born, and he seemed to know exactly what to do! He is so good at nursing, and the only times he struggles are when I don't have him in the right position, or I've waited too long to feed him, and he's really hungry. I have heard of so many babies who have a hard time nursing, and I realize how blessed I am that Connor is not one of those babies.
Another thing that Connor has started getting the hang of is sleeping. When we first brought him home he didn't seem to be interested in sleeping, all he wanted to do was eat. That was hard for a few days, but then my mom came and helped us kind of get Connor on a schedule. When he did sleep he was not willing to sleep in his crib, in fact, the only place he would sleep was in someones arms. I will say, those days after my mom left and I was up at night with Connor I understood the temptation to co sleep, because Connor was all about being close to us. But I also knew that I really wanted Connor to sleep in his crib, so I persisted and now I would say that about half of his night time sleeping hours are in his crib, about a fourth are in his swing, and the remaining fourth are still in my arms. Buuuut, that still means that I get to sleep for a few hours at night while he sleeps in his crib or swing. During the day he sleeps just fine in his crib or swing. I think part of the problem of getting him to sleep in his crib at night is that I am so tired I don't have the energy to put him to sleep in his crib, it's a lot easier for me to just stay sitting on the couch holding him.
Although the location of his sleeping is not consistent, he has gotten into a great eating and sleeping pattern! He eats about every 3 hours during the day, and every 4 hours at night. During the day, after he has eaten he is usually awake for another hour, then sleeps for an hour, then starts the pattern over again. At night he eats then goes right back to sleep for the first two night time feedings, but the 4 am feeding he eats then is awake for about an hour and by then, if I haven't already fallen asleep holding him, he goes to sleep in his swing. I have not yet been able to get him to sleep in his crib after the 4 am feeding.
Of course all of these things are up to this point, when he's two weeks old. I've been told that it all changes around 6 weeks when they hit a growth spurt.
Connor is a great pooper. I feel like I am constantly changing his diaper, which I've been told is better than not pooping, but poor Connor hates having his diaper changed, so he hollers pretty loud if I don't get it done really fast. I feel bad for our neighbors when I have to change Connor at 4 in the morning.
We love and adore Connor! I am so grateful that Heavenly Father trusted us enough to send Connor to our family. I want to prove to Heavenly Father that I am worthy to be Connor's mom, and that I can take care of him.
